A Journey Through Responsibility: The Story of Pagmer Kimin

In a serene corner of Arunachal Pradesh lies Kimin, a small village nestled under the district of Papum Pare. It is from this humble place that I, Pagmer Kimin, emerged, carrying the weight of dreams, expectations, and responsibilities that would shape my journey.

At 24 years old, I am the eldest son of a family with modest means. I graduated in 2022 from Government Doimukh College with a degree in Political Science. While academics were never my strongest suit, I navigated the challenges of my education with perseverance, driven by the hope of a brighter future.

Being the eldest, I am the successor of my family—a responsibility both heavy and humbling. I have three sisters and a brother, Rodo. Our family has always known struggle, where luxuries were out of reach, and even modest desires often went unspoken. My father, the backbone of our family, did all he could to provide for us. But as the head of the next generation, I know that the weight of our family’s aspirations now rests on my shoulders.

After graduating, I tried twice to gain admission to a university but didn’t succeed. With higher education out of reach, I knew I couldn’t rely on my father for support any longer. I found a job in the e-commerce sector with Flipkart, earning less than ₹15,000 per month. I rented a modest room for ₹3,650 a month, far from home, juggling work and the responsibilities of supporting my family.

Despite the challenges, life has its moments of light. I am blessed with a girlfriend who is pursuing her MA in Hindi at Rajiv Gandhi University. She is kind and beautiful, but as life often goes, she comes with her own set of expectations. Her upbringing was more comfortable than mine, and her family, especially her mother, hopes I can provide her with a better future. Their hopes only add to the burden I already carry.

Life, however, isn’t without its struggles. A financial misstep led me to lend ₹5,000 to someone in need. That small gesture spiraled, leaving me with a debt of ₹25,000. Managing this while supporting my family and meeting my own basic needs has been an uphill battle.

Through it all, I am reminded of my brother Rodo’s words. He once shared his vision for our family, and his faith in me as the family’s successor stirred something deep within. Yet, there are moments when I question my worthiness of this role. Am I capable of meeting these towering expectations?

Despite the doubts, my dream remains steadfast. I envision a day when my entire family can live together under one roof—a home filled with love, laughter, and security. It’s this vision that fuels me to keep going, even when life feels overwhelming.

The road ahead is uncertain, marked by struggles and sacrifices. But I hold on to the hope that one day, through hard work and perseverance, I will give my family the life they deserve—a life where our small village of Kimin will no longer be remembered as a place of poverty but as the origin of a story of resilience and triumph.
